Detection and Analysis of Flood and Inundation Risks in the Eastern Black Sea Region — Climate Adaptation

Project Goal

To predict flash-flood probability across 18 rivers and basins with flood risk in Samsun, Ordu, Giresun, Trabzon, Rize and Artvin through realistic inundation simulations, and to identify in advance the settlements most likely to be affected.

Scope of Work

  • 01Establishment and measurement of 612 Ground Control Points and 75 Check Points across 18 regions
  • 02Acquisition of aerial imagery at 10 cm GSD over 3,500 km² via photogrammetry
  • 03Approximately 270 flight hours and 13,000 km flown in total
  • 04LiDAR data collection over 50 km² in Tonya district of Trabzon for precision DTM production
  • 05Automatic and manual classification of the LiDAR data (Ground, Vegetation, Building, Noise)
  • 06Orthophoto, digital terrain model, digital surface model and 3D point cloud production for 18 regions
  • 073D model production in CityGML format across all 18 regions
  • 08Development of a desktop 3D GIS application and hydrology tools
  • 09Hydrological analyses, simulations and video production
  • 10Flood analyses and videos produced for 4 scenarios
